The epic event, known as the ‘Battle for Boston’ due to both bands hailing from there, saw the groups taking turns performing their hit songs before joining forces on stage. New Kids on the Block, made up of members like Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood, kicked off the show with electrifying performances of “The Right Stuff” and “Step by Step.”

In an exciting collaboration, New Edition and NKOTB joined forces to perform a medley of their songs Is This the End and Please Don’t Go Girl, with all 11 members singing and dancing together on stage. This performance marked New Edition’s return to the AMAs after 1997, while NKOTB last appeared on the show in 2010. Both legendary groups have each won two AMA awards over the course of their illustrious careers.
Looking ahead to 2022, New Edition has big plans lined up including a tour and a Las Vegas residency. These exciting announcements came around the same time as the band’s signing with CAA this past summer.
In their first AMAs performance since 1997, the members of New Edition, including Brown, Ricky Bell, Ralph Tresvant, Ronnie DeVoe, Michael Bivins, and Johnny Gill, made a stylish comeback wearing top hats and coordinated coats.
Two iconic boy bands, New Edition and NKOTB, decided to team up and create a mashup of their hit songs “Is This the End” and “Please Don’t Go Girl.” All 11 members of the two groups came together to perform, singing and dancing in perfect harmony.
The competition in Boston, known as the ‘Battle for Boston’, saw both bands, who originated in the city, taking turns to play some of their top hits individually before uniting on stage for a grand performance.
