During an interview with Anderson Cooper on CBS’ 60 Minutes, he addressed reports from GQ and The Los Angeles Times that listed his height as 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-4, respectively. Cooper even mentioned a source claiming he was only 5’2″. Hart jokingly dismissed the 5’2″ claim as “bullshit,” confirming his height as 5-foot-5, or 5-foot-5 and a half with shoes on.
Known for incorporating jokes about his height in his stand-up routines, Hart explained that he embraces self-deprecating humor because it allows people to laugh at things they may not be comfortable confronting. He believes that the laughs he receives are not directed at him as a joke, but rather at the shared human experiences he portrays in his stories. Hart sees his comedy as a way to address topics that others may shy away from discussing.

Cooper also inquired Hart about the 2018-19 incident when he was initially chosen to host the Oscars ceremony but had to step down due to backlash over homophobic remarks he had made in the past on social media and in his comedy routines. Despite stating, “I’m not homophobic. I have nothing against gay people. Be happy. Do what you want to do. But as a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will.”
Initially, Hart did not offer an apology, but later on, he had a change of heart. During his appearance on 60 Minutes, he recalled how Wanda Sykes helped him see the impact of his words. Hart shared, “The understanding came from the best lightbulb ever. Wanda Sykes said, ‘There are people that are being hurt today because of comments like the ones that you made then, and there are people that were saying it’s okay to make those comments today based off of what you did.’ It was presented to me in a way where I couldn’t ignore that.”
He expressed how this experience had been a profound lesson for him. Hart acknowledged, “In those moments of despair, great understanding and education can come out of it if you’re given the opportunity.”
